#1 To stay motivated
Setting fitness goals is a fantastic way to help you stay motivated. Think of it as a checklist, if you write down your fitness goals, you will have a greater chance of achieving them. The key is to set realistic fitness goals that you’ll actually achieve, and it’s best to start with small goals if you are not exercising at all, so you can work your way up working out more often.
#2 To evaluate your workout plan
Setting a fitness goal can help you break through a fitness plateau. If you are not seeing the results you hope for, you can re-evaluate your workout plan and analyse what adjustments need to be made. Also, if you haven’t reached your desired fitness goals, then re-evaluate and set yourself short-term fitness goals instead.
#3 To measure progress
Fitness goals allow you to keep track of the progress, so you can see how far you have progressed. If you are not making the desired progress, you can see this before you fall too far behind. The goals you set must be able to be measured, for example, “I want to lose 5 lbs”, or “I want to run 5km in 30mins”. Then you can measure the distance you run and the amount of time it takes you, and measure your weight with a scale.

By setting goals you keep yourself away from distractions and say focused towards the goals. Distractions can be anything, from your smartphone, TV to friends. It helps you stay focused and organised when you have a plan.
