What moisturiser and cleanser are you using in the morning and the nighttime skincare routine? Are these products playing double duty? Here are the reasons why you should use different products based on daytime or night-time skincare routine.

Like our body, the circadian rhythm also governs our skin. Therefore, when day turns to night, the skin condition will change by the internal clock. Everyone’s skin type is different as well as lifestyle. So, the skincare routine should be personalised regarding what your skin needs.

Apart from that, different skincare products play an important role in daytime and night-time skincare routine. Hence, knowing which ingredients to use and when to use is very curial.

Daytime skincare routine: Protect

The main point of the daytime routine is to give enough nourishment and protection of the skin against external pollutants, free radical damage and sun rays.

Your skincare products should help to strengthen barriers like ceramides and combat the free radicals like antioxidants vitamin C .

Compared to the night-time skincare routine, you should apply fewer layers to prevent further blockage caused by the sun and heat.

As for the cleansing, you should choose a gentle, hydrating, and non-stripping cleanser. It helps to remove the oil and bacteria accumulated overnight.

If you’re running out of time in the morning, you don’t need to use cleanser and toner when your skin is not oily. The moisturiser is also not a must depending on your skin type.

Needless to say, wearing sufficient sunscreen with SPF 30-50 is a must.

So, you should reach out to more potent active ingredients. For example, anti-ageing and depigmenting ingredients like retinol or skincare acids like AHA or BHA should use at night. It’s because these ingredients are sensitive to sun rays, which will lead to further pigmentation.

Studies show that retinol can boost collagen production and smooth fine lines and wrinkles.
